If you have recently gotten dentures in Scottsdale or are planning on getting them soon, then you probably have some questions about how to get used to them.  Dentures are a big change in your life, but when you have the right fit, they can make a huge impact on your daily activities and can make you feel more confident about your great smile.

Today’s dentures are designed to look much more natural than they used to, as they are created to look just like your natural teeth.  If you are missing more than 1 or 2 teeth, then partial dentures or full dentures can help improve your smile in a big way.  While they may feel different and unusual when you first start wearing them, your mouth will eventually train itself to hold the dentures in where they need to be so that you won’t even notice they are there.  Many people can get away without using a denture adhesive when they have just the right fit, although it never hurts to apply a small amount if you want some extra coverage.

One of the biggest concerns about getting dentures is, “How will I be able to eat?”  It’s no problem to eat with dentures, as long as you take some time to practice and make sure you aren’t overloading your mouth with food.  Dentists recommend taking smaller bites of food and eating on both the left and right side of your dentures to help balance out the pressure.  It’s also a good idea to try soft foods with your dentures at first, as they are great confidence builders if you are unsure about eating with your new dentures.  Once you start to feel braver, you can work up towards chewy foods, like fresh veggies or fruits that you love, making it easy to incorporate them back into your diet.

You don’t have to miss out on life just because you have dentures.  Take the time to get used to this big change and you’ll be set to enjoy a lifelong adventure with your new and improved smile.
